Colin Munro set a new world record for the most sixes in a first class innings with his first day blitz for Auckland against Central Districts in the Plunket Shield in Napier.
The Worcestershire Rapids NatWest T20 Blast overseas player for 2015 cleared the boundary on 23 occasions on his way to achieving a career best score of 281.
His incredible hitting smashed the previous best sixes tally in a first class innings of 16 by Andrew Symonds, Graham Napier, Jess Ryder and Muktar Ali.
Munro, who is returning to New Road for a second spell in May, faced just 167 balls and hit a six on average every 7.26 deliveries!
He showed signs of his hitting potential when finishing as the Rapids second highest run-scorer behind skipper Daryl Mitchell.
Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes had predicted before Munro's arrival that fans would be excited by his power hitting – and he will be back for the Rapids opening game of 2015 against Birmingham Bears at Edgbaston on May 22.
Symonds hit 16 sixes for Gloucestershire against Glamorgan at Abergavenny in 1995 to set a new record.
That was equalled in 2011 by Napier, for Essex against Surrey at Whitgift School , and another New Zealander in Ryder for his country against Australia 'A' at Brisbane.
Then last year Bangladesh's Muktar Ali cleared the ropes on 16 occasions for Rajshahi against Chittagong batting at number nine.
The previous record of 15 sixes had lasted more than 30 years with Kiwi John Reid achieving that for Wellington versus Northern Districts at the Basin Reserve in 1962-63.
Auckland eventually declared on a massive 668-7 after 144 overs and by the end of the second day had reduced Central Districts to 148-6 off 43 overs – still 520 in arrears.
