New Zealand Coach Is Full Of Praise For County Performance

New Zealand coach Mike Hesson was full of praise for Worcestershire's performance which put his team under pressure at various stages of the four-day fixture before they eventually triumphed by 15 runs.

The Black Caps were pushed all the way before winning their final warm-up game before the first Test with England at Lord's which begins on Thursday.

Hesson highlighted the performances of centurion Ross Whiteley and the county's bowlers plus the promise shown by Ed Barnard in his first senior game for Worcestershire.

He said: "It was exactly what we wanted and they bought into the spirit of the game. When you lose the first day, to make a four innings game takes both teams to do that.

"They bowled very well and at times put us under a lot of pressure and, the way they came out to bat this afternoon, once again put us under pressure and that is exactly what we wanted. It was a good effort.

"Who impressed me? I like the guy Barnard. I thought he was promising actually.

"Both opening bowlers (Morris and Leach) performed well and Shantry is something a little bit different isn't he.

"Whiteley played some great shots and he also bowled nicely in the first innings. I'm sure he'll have a good season."
