Oliver Denied Chance Of Second Hundred As Weather Has Final Say

Richard Oliver was denied the chance of a second pre-season century for Worcestershire as rain caused the two-day friendly with Warwickshire at Edgbaston to be abandoned at tea on the final day.

Opener Oliver had raced to 89 not out off 91 balls with the aid of one six and 15 fours after Worcestershire resumed on 31-1 in reply to Warwickshire's 263-4 from 64 overs.

But then the heavens opened and play was called off with Worcestershire 156-2 from 32 overs.

No play was possible before lunch after heavy overnight rain but Oliver was keen to make up for lost time when he returned to the middle.

The left hander hit his third half century in six pre-season knocks, following on from his 103 against a UAE X1 and 63 off the Derbyshire attack in Abu Dhabi.

Oliver was given good support in a second wicket stand of 81 in 17 overs with Alexei Kervezee who made 33 before being bowled by former Worcestershire team-mate Richard Jones with 95 on the board.

He then added an unbroken 61 in 10 overs with Alex Gidman who struck four boundaries in his unbeaten 20 off 29 deliveries before the elements had the final say.
