Oliver Marks Start Of Captaincy Reign By Leading Geelong To Victory

Richard Oliver led Geelong City to victory in his first official match as captain against Leopold in a Geelong Cricket Association Division One match over the weekend.

The Worcestershire batsman only flew out to Melbourne on Wednesday for the winter.

But less then 72 hours later Oliver took charge of a 22 run home triumph in a 50 over encounter at the Richmond Crescent Oval.

Oliver opened the innings and made 10 out of 22 before becoming the first wicket to fall.

Geelong totalled 204-8 and dismissed Leopold for 182 in 47.4 overs.

Oliver and Co will next be in action when on October 11 when they visit Murgheboluc who lost their opening game by eight wickets to South Barwon.

A host of other Worcestershire players will be playing abroad this winter including Jack Shantry, Joe Leach, Ben Cox, Ross Whiteley, Brett D'Oliveira, Joe Clarke, Ed Barnard and Alex Hepburn.

We will endeavour to keep supporters informed of their progress during the next five months via the Worcestershire website on a regular basis.

The remainder of the squad will report back for training at Malvern College at the start of November after a deserved break.
