Only 50 Days To Go Before Opening Fixture Of 2016 At New Road!

The countdown to the new season is underway and there are only 50 days to go before Worcestershire CCC return to action at New Road!

The new campaign is fast approaching now with much anticipation now that the recent floods are behind us.

Those nine days left in February – it's a leap year – 31 in March and first 10 of April will soon disappear!

It's an attractive opening fixture with Kent the first visitors to New Road on Sunday, April 10 for the start of the four-day County Championship fixture.

Skipper Daryl Mitchell and his exciting young side – many of whom have signed new long term contracts – played some memorable cricket last summer and came so close to preserving their Division One status.

Now the target is a quickfire return to the top flight and more success in the NatWest T20 Blast where the Rapids have been quarter-finalists in three of the past four seasons.

Worcestershire will be hoping that history repeats itself as Kent also provided the first home opposition for the 2014 season.

On that occasion Worcestershire triumphed by 125 runs despite conceding a narrow first innings lead at the beginning of their promotion year.

Alexei Kervezee top-scored with 54 in Worcestershire's 224 and Gareth Andrew (4-42) restricted Kent to 229 in reply.

Ben Cox hit a then career best 89 as Worcestershire made 270 in their second innings and Andrew (4-43) and three wickets apiece for Charlie Morris and Jack Shantry helped dismiss Kent for 140.
