Opener Daryl’s Benefit Year Raises 76,000

Worcestershire opener Daryl Mitchell’s 2016 benefit year at New Road raised £76,000 after tax, it has been announced by his benefit committee.

But £4,000 of that figure will be split between Daryl’s two designated charities – the Oddballs Foundation for research into testicular cancer and the Professional Cricketers’ Association Benelovent Fund.

Benefit committee chairman Mark Ashbourne confirmed : “We can now officially announce the final figures of Daryl’s benefit year (£72,000 plus £4,000 for the two charities).

“The committee would like to thank everyone who so generously supported his benefit year.”

Badsey born Mitchell, a first team regular at New Road for the past decade, said: “It was an enjoyable year. Very busy but very enjoyable and I would like to thank all the members and supporters for all their contributions throughout all of the events and donations.

“A lot of the events were well supported and it was nice also to get out and play some games of cricket in local clubs as well.

“I would have to say the highlight was the dinner in the Long Room at Lord’s which was really special but it was great to meet so many people throughout the 12 months.”

PCA chairman Daryl added: “I would also like to thank my benefit committee for all their sterling work in organising and participating in the various events.

“Their efforts took a lot of work off my shoulders and enabled me to continue to concentrate 100 per cent on cricket.”
