Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan has said that spinner Saeed Ajmal will not feature in the 2015 World Cup.
Khan has told Pakistan media that Ajmal had taken the decision "as he has not been able to completely correct his action."
The PCB chief said Ajmal, who took 63 wickets for Worcestershire in the LV = County Championship last summer, is not to undergo an unofficial biomechanic test in Chennai as had been originally planned.
Ajmal has been banned from international cricket by the ICC since his action was reported during the Sri Lanka-Pakistan Test in Galle in August.
Shaharyar Khan said: "Ajmal has taken this decision all by himself as he has not been able to completely correct his action and he will hold a press conference in a couple of days to announce his decision.
"The remedial work on his action will take some time so we are not sending him for an unofficial test."
Ajmal would have been required to pass an official biomechanic test to gain clearance to play in the World Cup.
Shaharyar Khan added: "We were aware that if he took the official ICC test in a bid to make the World Cup squad and failed it, he could be suspended from playing for one to two years and that would mean the end of his career."
PCB spokesman Agha Akbar said: "Ajmal himself withdrew from the official testing which effectively means he has withdrawn from the World Cup."
Ajmal has been undergoing remedial work on his action with former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq.
Mohammad Akram, head coach at Pakistan`s national cricket academy, told AFP: "Ajmal wants to play as world number one bowler and not someone who wants to hide for his action.
"Saqlain advised him to concentrate on cricket after the World Cup which he has accepted and withdrew from the World Cup."
