Pardoe Hit Century And Cessford Claims Five Wickets In Seconds Win

Pardoe Hit Century And Cessford Claims Five Wickets In Seconds Win

Matt Pardoe scored a century for Worcestershire Seconds as they overcame MCC Young Cricketers by 118 runs in a Second Eleven Trophy clash at Brmsgrove CC.

The opener raced to 137 off 118 balls with two sixes and 18 fours as Worcestershire amassed 378-6 in their 50 overs.

It was a splendid return to form for Pardoe who played in the opening nine LV = County Championship matches of the campaign.

Pardoe shared in a second wicket partnership of 97 with Tom Fell and 85 for the fourth wicket with Ed Barnard.

The side was captained by Alexei Kervezee in place of Gareth Andrew who was part of the Worcestershire Rapids squad for the NatWest T20 Blast clash with Derbysire at New Road.

Pardoe and Fell picked up the run rate when the powerplay was finished until the latter on 44 fell to a spectacular catch at mid-wicket by Oliie Graham in Afar Abid's first over.

Kervezee (26) then took up the mantle and he brought up the 150 with a six in the 26th over.

Barnard supported Pardoe who reached his century from 89 balls including 13 fours and two sixes in the 31st over and was eventually caught on the boundary.

Alex Hepburn, run out by a direct throw from Sam Arthurton after scoring 51 off 38 balls, and keeper Alex Milton – unbeaten on 38 from just 18 deliveries – helped Worcestershire to their formidable total.

Milton was in the action with gloves after lunch catching the opener Liam Gough off Graeme Cessford in the seventh over and George Rhodes joined in with the catching of Piesley from Nick Harrison’s bowling in the 13th over.

But MCC fought back with a 117 run stand for the third wicket between Sam Arthurton and Ollie Graham.

A drinks interval broke the concentration of Graham who was caught by Charlie Morris off the first ball after drinks and then Arthurton was bowled next over by Cessford returning for his second five over spell.

This spell proved most successful for Cessford as he took two more wickets in successive balls in his eighth over, the first being an acrobatic catch by Graeme Whiles on the long on boundary.

He completed a five wicket haul with another dismissal in his final over to end on 5-67.

The MCC mid-order collapse saw them lose five wickets for 24 runs in five overs, and with the score on 205-7 after 36 overs, the run rate was now too high for the number of wickets and overs remaining.

Abid put up a show of defiance with 31 from 28 deliveries but ran out of partners.
