Dillon Pennington impressed with the new ball as England Under-19s defeated their Ireland counterparts by 125 runs in their opening ICC World Cup warm-up match in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The Worcestershire paceman and Academy product posed problems with his pace and bounce and picked up two early wickets.
First Morgan Topping (5) struggled to deal with Pennington’s steepling bounce and offered a simple return catch in his second over.
Then opener and wicket-keeper Mark Donegan (11) was undone by a ball of full length which shattered his stumps from the last ball of Pennington’s fifth over.
His first spell brought figures of 5-0-19-2 and he ended with 8-1-26-2.
Pennington shared the new ball with Ethan Bamber and the pair reduced Ireland to 35-3.
Fellow Worcestershire paceman and Academy player Adam Finch replaced Pennington in the attack after his first spell and bowled four overs for 14 runs.
Ireland were eventually bowled out for 247 in 49.4 overs.
Earlier England had totalled 372-8 with captain Harry Brook and vice-captain Will Jacks both hitting unbeaten hundreds before retiring not out.
