Worcestershire Rapids hopes of Royal London One-Day Cup glory ended as Somerset inflicted a nine wicket defeat in the quarter-final clash at Taunton today.
Moeen Ali and Daryl Mitchell scored fine half centuries for the Rapids during a fourth wicket century stand.
But a target of 211 was insufficient to challenge the home side as veteran Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardena scored a brilliant 99 ball hundred.
He shared in an opening stand of 188 in 34 overs with Jim Allenby (81) as Somerset set up a semi-final trip to Warwickshire or Essex.
They finally reached their target in 36.5 overs with Jayawardena ending unbeaten on 117.
Mitchell opted to bat and Tom Kohler-Cadmore was dismissed for two in the fifth over, Jayawardena taking a fine catch at first slip off Craig Overton.
Tom Fell edged his first ball from Overton for four but after making 15 he was caught at backward point by Tom Abell off Josh Davey.
Joe Clarke (2) then turned the same bowler into the hands of Roleof van der Merwe at mid wicket to leave Worcestershire on 42-3 in the 10th over.
Mitchell had a let off on three when Jayawardena spilled a similar chance at slip off Lewis Gregory to the one he had held to dismiss Kohler-Cadmore.
But then Moeen and Mitchell put together an excellent partnership of 113 in 20 overs.
Moeen, released by England to play in the quarter-final, reeled off a series of splendid shots and went to his half century off 51 balls with seven fours.
Mitchell worked the ball around effectively and then accelerated, hitting spinner Max Waller for six and four off successive balls.
The 100 stand came up in 18 overs and Mitchell's 50 was brought up from 67 deliveries.
Moeen's straight six off Waller saw the Worcestershire total move past the 150 mark in the 29th over.
But it was Peter Trego who then made large inroads into the Worcestershire innings.
Moeen, after making an excellent 81, was caught at deep mid wicket by Waller and then Mitchell (64) perished at mid off to Davey running back.
Trego enjoyed a third success when Ross Whiteley (0) tried to cut a ball that bounced and nicked through to keeper Ryan Davies to leave Worcestershire on 176-6.
Davies also accounted for Ben Cox (0) as he opened the face to Gregory and Overton returned to have Brett D'Oliveira (21) caught by Davey at mid on.
Worcestershire's ninth wicket fell when Joe Leach (20) was run out by Van der Merwe's throw to the non striker's end when attempting a second run after Ed Barnard chopped Trego to wide third man.
The innings was wrapped up when Jack Shantry was lbw to Van der Merwe at 210 after just 42.5 overs.
Jayawardena and Allenby were seldom troubled in helping Somerset to reach their modest target.
First to 50 was Jayawardena off 50 balls and Allenby went to the milestone from 70 balls with one of the few false strokes – an edge for four off Leach.
Mitchell ran the changes with his bowlers in an effort to conjure up a breakthrough but to no avail.
The 100 partnership came up in the 19th over as runs flowed continued to flow at a steady rate.
Jayawardena went to three figures with a four through mid wicket off Shantry before Moeen broke the opening partnership.
Allenby went for a big hit but holed out to Fell at deep square leg.
