Rapids T20 Blast Record-Breaker Munro Signs For Mumbai Indians

Worcestershire Rapids NatWest t20 Blast overseas signing Colin Munro has signed to play for Mumbai Indians for the remainder of the 2015 Indian Premier League.

But the good news is that the record-breaking left-hander will miss a maximum of only one of the Rapids T20 Blast matches – and that only if Mumbai, who have won just one of their opening five games, reach the final on May 24 and he is selected.

If that is not the scenario, Munro will be available for the Rapids opening derby clash away to Birmingham Bears on May 22.

Munro has been signed by the Indians, who are coached by former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, as a replacement for the injured Aaron Finch.

The 28-year-old, who was Worcestershire's second highest scorer in the T20 Blast in 2014, hit a world record 23 sixes for a first class innings when playing for Auckland against Central Districts on his way to a career best 281 last month.

He enjoyed a successful winter with Auckland in the 50 over Ford Trophy and the four-day Plunket Shield.

Worcestershire chief executive David Leatherdale confirmed: "Colin has signed for Mumbai Indians and, should they get to the final and he is selected, we would lose him for the first game of the season only in the T20 Blast.

"He has had a fantastic winter with Auckland which has put him in the shop window and, although we might miss him for the first game, we've got him for the other 13 other group games and any possible quarter-final or finals day."
