Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes has revealed his desire for Worcestershire to "make an impact" in the NatWest T20 Blast this season.
Worcestershire have enjoyed a highly successful start in the LV = County Championship and head Division Two by 11 points after the opening four fixtures.
They will rest several players from the three-day clash with Cambridge University at Fenners starting on Monday although still intend to field a relatively strong side.
But now the preparations will get underway in earnest for the opening two T20 games away to Durham and Lancashire next weekend.
Worcestershire have reached the quarter-final stage in 2003, 2007 and 2012 but never qualified for finals day.
Rhodes said: "It's the start of the T20 competition at the back end of next week and we want to make an impact in that competition.
"We want to get a good start. We've got two tough games coming up straight away against Durham and Lancashire so the important thing for us to be ready for those games as well.
"We are going to play a relatively strong side at Cambridge but we will definitely be resting some guys, resting them but also preparing them for T20.
"It is an opportunity where we might steal a march on some other teams who are playing.
"We can set about getting some good plans and good practice in place for the first T20 game at Durham."
Meanwhile the Second Eleven Twenty20 match between Worcestershire and Gloucestershire at Frocester CC yesterday was abandoned due to rain without a ball being bowled.
Worcestershire will, weather permitting, take on Glamorgan in another Twenty20 encounter at Kidderminster's Chester Road ground today (Friday).
