Rhodes And Milton Hit Fifties At Ageas Bowl

George Rhodes and Alex Milton hit half centuries but Worcestershire suffered a first innings deficit of 153 on the second day of the four-day clash with Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl nursery ground

The visitors, who resumed on 7-0, were bowled out for 223 in reply to Hampshire’s 376.

Nightwatchman and skipper Charlie Morris was out to the first ball he faced this morning – the first delivery of the second over- when he was leg before to Brad Wheal.

Oli Westbury (0) was bowled by the next delivery which brought Tom Fell in to face and survive the hat trick ball.

Fell and Rhodes put on 40 in the next eight overs until a mix-up saw both batsmen at the same end and the former was run out for 12.

One more wicket was lost before lunch when Josh Dell was caught behind by Tom Alsop for four, leaving Milton and Rhodes to bat out the rest of the morning session and take the score to 97-4 off 32 overs.

After lunch, Milton and Rhodes scored another 27 and added a total of 62 in 19 overs until Rhodes (54) was caught behind three balls after bringing up his half century.

He hit 10 fours in his 122 ball knock.

Zen Malik started strongly but was caught at second slip by Ian Holland for 10 and then five overs later Jack Haynes was bowled by the spin of Jake Lintott in his first over for one.

Zain Ul-Hassan and Milton put together a seventh wicket stand of 26 in 13 overs when the wicket-keeper-batsman (54) was caught behind after another impressive knock.

Ben Twohig was another Holland victim at second slip two balls later which delayed tea as now nine wickets were down.

Jack Shantry entertained for 21 balls, taking a liking to the spin of Lintott and scoring 21 off one his overs, with 6, 4, 6, 4, 0, 1.

Shantry was left stranded on 35 after adding 45 with Ul-Hassan (28) ,who was trapped lbw by Chris Sole and Worcestershire fell four runs short of reaching the follow on target although it was not enforced.

With 25 overs remaining in the day Hampshire started their second innings with a lead of 153.

Opening bowlers Morris and Shantry restricted Hampshire to 32 off the first 10 overs but a switch to Ul-Hassan brought two wickets in his fourth over in the space of three  balls.

Matt Davis caught a hard hit ball driven straight back at him from Calvin Dickinson to reduce Hants to 98-3 and they ended on 104-3, a lead of 257, with first innings century-maker Holland unbeaten on 56.
