Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes believes Worcestershire paceman Charlie Morris has the potential to become a "major, major player" for the county in the years to come.
Morris gained his release from university cricket in his final year at Oxford to start the season in the Worcestershire first team and Rhodes's faith in him has been more than justified.
He took the new ball in the rain-hit opening LV County Championship match with Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl and claimed the scalps of Liam Dawson and Sean Ervine in finishing with 2-61 from 16.2 overs.
Morris then bowled well for no tangible reward and had the economical figures of 0-43 from 23 overs in the first innings against Kent.
But he was amongst the wickets in the second innings in dismissing Sam Billings, James Tredwell and Mitchell Claydon in returning 3-31 from 13 overs in a 125 run win.
Rhodes, currently preparing the side for the home clash with Derbyshire starting on Sunday, said: "When Alan Richardson left, I said Charlie was one of our players who could be a replacement for him.
"It is big shoes to fill, he is only 20 and hasn't played much cricket – but his attitude is absolutely tremendous.
"You wish they all had his attitude. He is a great role model and he is only 20.
"If he carries on, stays fit, keeps his head down, and keeps working and keeps learning which I'm sure he will, I think in two, three years time he will be a major, major player for us.
"He has got a really bright future."
Morris had warmed up for his breakthrough with the county by twice dismissing England one-day player Samit Patel when in university action against Nottinghamshire.
