Steve Rhodes welcomes the new "toss" rule that will be in force in both divisions of the County Championship during the forthcoming season if it leads to "better wickets that are more like Test pitches."
The ECB has agreed the new regulation on a trial basis for 2016.
In Division One and Two fixtures, the visiting captain will be offered the opportunity to bowl first.
If he declines, the toss will take place as normal. If he accepts, there will be no toss.
County skipper Daryl Mitchell and paceman Charlie Morris have already given their backing to the change and now Rhodes gives his perspective as Director Of Cricket at New Road.
He said: "I think it will be a good thing. Wickets last year were judged by the umpires. That puts them in a very awkward position I think so therefore something needed doing.
"If this makes for better wickets that are more like Test match pitches, then that has got to be good for our game."
Rhodes, back at the helm at New Road after his coaching stints with England Lions this winter, is happy that the new regulation will be enforced in both divisions.
He said: ""I'm really pleased that they are going to do it in both divisions because I don't think it is fair in any capacity at all to belittle Division Two.
"Notoriously. each year you've got sides that come up and go down, some bob up and down like we do.
"But you've had some big international venue clubs, like Lancashire and Surrey who went up for 2016, and they were only in Division Two a few months ago."
