Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes has named a 13 man squad for the Specsavers County Championship clash with Gloucestershire beginning this morning at New Road (11am start).
The County will choose from the 11 players in action during the seven wicket win over Leicestershire at the Fischer County Ground on Tuesday plus all-rounder Ed Barnard and paceman Chris Russell.
Barnard produced a superb performance with the ball in returning 1-14 from his four overs in Friday's five wicket triumph over Birmingham Bears in a NatWest T20 Blast clash at Edgbaston.
He has taken 11 wickets in his four Championship appearances to date this season.
Russell played a key role in the Seconds three wicket victory over Northamptonshire in the Second Eleven Championship at Kidderminster with 5-97 in their second innings.
Worcestershire are embarking on a particularly heavy schedule with six successive days cricket and seven out of the next eight.
After the Gloucestershire match, they take on Yorkshire Vikings and Northamptonshire Steelbacks in back to back T20 Blast matches before facing Derbyshire Falcons in their opening Royal London One-Day Cup match next Sunday.
Rhodes said: "The way the fixtures have turned out, we had a big gap in April, we didn't play against Kent as well, so that made the gap even bigger before we got going.
"We've got a gap in September as well and, when you have those sort of gaps, it means you are going to be busy in that middle period and that is what's happening now.
"We are in a very busy period and making sure the lads rest well, and eat well, and making sure they recover and prepare as well as they can is going to be really important.
"We do a lot of practice on game days, individual one to one work, so we keep them topped up that way.
"We were in yesterday but we didn't do much. We needed to rest up a little bit and we had a meeting about the opposition and had to get our heads back around four day cricket."
