Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes is optimistic that skipper Daryl Mitchell will be fit for next Friday's NatWest T20 Blast quarter-final with Hampshire at New Road.
Mitchell suffered a hamstring injury while batting during the Royal London One-Day Cup clash with Surrey at the Kia Oval on Tuesday evening.
He missed the RLC clash with Gloucestershire on the following day and the LV = County Championship match with Nottinghamshire which got underway today.
But Rhodes said the condition of the 31-year-old has "significantly improved" and he will continue to have rehab under the expert eye of first team physio Ben Davies.
Rhodes said: "We were hoping that Mitch might be fit for this game. It's just come a few days too early so we are very optimistic with his rehab and recovery that we can get him fit for the next game which is the T20 quarter-final.
"There is no reason to think he won't be fit for that but with all injuries you have to take them one day at a time.
"He has significantly improved since The Oval which is a real positive sign and we are very optimistic we can get him right."
Mitchell is Worcestershire's leading run-getter in the T20 Blast for the second successive season and a massively important figure in all formats for the county he supported as a young lad.
