Steve Rhodes has hailed the world record breaking exploits of Colin Munro and said: "We are absolutely delighted he will be playing for Worcestershire again this summer."
Director of Cricket Rhodes rang Munro to congratulate him after he smashed 23 sixes for Auckland against Central Districts in the four day Plunket Shield competition – the most ever in a first class innings.
The 28-year-old was the county's second highest run scorer in the NatWest T20 Blast last summer in the run to the quarter-finals and has signed again to play in the short format of the game in 2015.
Rhodes said: "Colin's innings is absolutely wonderful news for him and for the club.
"We've got some really good overseas players signed up. Somerset have signed Chris Gayle for a short period but Colin Munro goes unnoticed and he is now the world record holder for the number of sixes in a first class innings.
"We are absolutely delighted with the fact he is going to be playing for Worcestershire again this year.
"We've all talked about the benefits of what he brings to the party, not just his six hitting and fielding and attacking nature as a person.
"He fits into our Worcestershire Way and our dressing room and he is very much a person who the lads enjoy playing alongside.
"We are delighted to have him. I rang him after his knock and told him we were delighted that a Worcestershire player breaks a record like that.
"He is powerful, clean hitter and a little bit freaky as well. He has got the ability to hit straight, long on, cow corner, all those areas.
"He done well in all forms of cricket. His numbers in all the formats, 20 over, 50 over and four-day cricket are excellent. He is a very good player."
Munro's record-breaking first innings exploits were capitalised on by Auckland who defeated Central Districts by an innings and 64 runs.
Auckland amassed 668-7 declared and then bowled out Central Districts for 233 and 371 to claim 20 points and move into second spot in the table behind Canterbury.
