Rhodes Says Gifford Is Ideal For President’s Role At New Road

Rhodes Says Gifford Is Ideal For President’s Role At New Road

Steve Rhodes believes Norman Gifford is another ideal choice to be Worcestershire CCC's next president.

Gifford is taking over the role for the next two years from Lord King of Lothbury.

The 76-year-old will be officially step into this prestigious role at the club's March annual general meeting.

Rhodes played against Gifford at county level in the 1980s and was coached by him on an England A tour.

Now the pair are working in tandem as Director Of Cricket and spin bowling coach respectively at New Road.

Rhodes said: "We have been fortunate to have such a passionate follower of the County in Lord King as president for the past two years and he has done an excellent job.

"Now it is great that Norman is taking over in the sense he is a real figurehead, another person that is passionate about Worcs CCC and the ground and what it stands for.

"He understands the family of Worcestershire CCC and he is a hands on bloke. He will be around in the winter and the summer and is definitely a flag bearer of what Worcestershire CCC is all about.

"His playing record speaks for itself and now he is coaching our spinners and he is also a good person.

"When you want these figure heads at the club in senior roles, you want good people and he is certainly one of them in the same way as Mervyn was."
