Rhodes Says Many Plus Points To Be Gained From Pakistan Match

Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes says there were many plus points to be taken from Worcestershire's two-day tour game with Pakistan which ended in a draw at New Road today.

Rhodes felt Worcestershire had shown plenty of discipline with the ball on day one before several of their batsmen made sizeable contributions including Tom Kohler-Cadmore who top-scored with 73.

But he believes the County's players would also have benefited from picking the brains of the Pakistan squad ahead of the third Test with England at Edgbaston which begins on Wednesday.

Rhodes said: "I thought it was a really good two days cricket. It was quite a slow wicket, which we knew it would be, but for our guys initially to bowl quite tight on that first day, we were pleased with our discipline against a good international side who beat England only two Tests ago.

"I thought Ed Barnard bowled superbly well and generally there was good discipline throughout. George Rhodes got through 24 overs against good players and at that time there wasn't so much help from the wicket.

"That was another really good experience for him and then with the bat I thought we applied ourselves really well.

"It was nice to see Daryl (Mitchell) looking in good nick and Tom (Fell) getting off to a good start opening and then the other lads, Clarkey (Joe Clarke) and Pepsi (Tom Kohler-Cadmore) playing really well and building innings and being prepared to be brave against an international attack.

"There was some reverse swing there which made life quite difficult and I thought we coped with it admirably. We've had a little bit of a chat, discussing options against reverse swing because a lot of the guys have not seen too much of it and they are learning and getting better.

"Tom Kohler-Cadmore played some lovely shots and he is coming on nicely. I like the way that he built his innings today. He looked in control at the crease until the ball he got out to."

Rhodes added: "What did the lads get out of this game? Just great experience all-round. There are various things bowling and batting against these guys that you can pick up and learn from.

"Reverse swing is one thing. Zulfiqar Babar is a tremendous spinner and his record is unbelievable. He gets a five-for every three games in first class cricket which is an amazing effort. These are quality cricketers

"They've also chance to chat to the Pakistan guys and try and pick their brains. Tom Kohler-Cadmore had a good chat with Misbah-ul-Haq and Younus Khan has been very open.

"That is a great experience for these guys. They don't always get that opportunity and it is good that they took advantage of that time."
