Ross’s Side Falls At Semi-Final Hurdle In T10 Tournament

Ross Whiteley and his Maratha Arabians side fell at the semi-final hurdle in the inaugural T10 tournament in Sharjah.

The Worcestershire all-rounder brought an end to his pre Christmas programme of cricket as the Arabians went down by five wickets to Kerela Kings,

Whiteley was promoted to number four in the order and made six off five balls with one boundary before being dismissed.

Maratha collapsed to 31-6 before recovering to 97-9 in their 10 overs thanks to Dwayne Bravo (27) and Imad Wasim (18) who added 45 for the seventh wicket.

Liam Plunkett, a team-mate of Whiteley’s in the Bangladesh Premier League this winter, returned 2-28 with Sohail Tanvir (3-12) andRayad Emit (2-6) the other main wicket-takers.

Maratha made light of their target thanks to 53 off 32 balls from England white ball captain Eoin Morgan who hit four sixes.

Kerela reached 93-1 before a wobble saw four wickets fall for two runs as victory was achieved with five balls to spare.

Whiteley can reflect on a two month spell of short format cricket which Worcestershire will hope stands him in good stead for next summer’s challenges in the T20 Blast.

*Moeen Ali ended with figures of 33-4-120-1 as Australia rattled up 662-9 declared in their first innings on day four of the third Ashes Test in Perth – a lead of 259.

The Worcestershire all-rounder is scheduled to be next in when England resume the final day on 132-4.
