Runs For Westbury And Milton And Wickets For Phagura As Seconds Go Under

Worcestershire Seconds were beaten by their Warwickshire counterparts in two T20 matches at Edgbaston today.

There was a fine knock in Game One from Seconds skipper Ollie Westbury while keeper Alex Milton contributed 40 plus scores in both matches.

With the ball, triallist Brinder Phagura produced some encouraging figures with the ball as he picked up a combined haul of five wickets.

But the home side won by 37 runs in Game One and then 59 runs in Game Two.

In Game One, Warwickshire elected to bat and totalled 203-7 with Will Rhodes hitting 66 off 37 balls with one six and 11 fours.

He was eventually caught at extra cover off Phagura who also accounted for Matthew Lamb (40) at backward point.

Phagura ended with the fine figures of 4-0-24-3.

Westbury raced to 75 off 47 balls with two sixes and nine fours and shared in stands of 63 with Tom Fell (21) and 65 with Milton.

But, after the opener was third out at 132, there was a clatter of wickets including four in the space of five balls with the total on 156.

Milton made 43 before he fell at backward point.

In Game Two, Worcestershire gave another debut to Barnards Green player Josh Blunt.

The home side again opted to take first knock and ran up a similar total despite losing three wickets for 37 – two of them to Riecko Parker-Cole.

Opener Adam Hose hit a 36 ball 59 with two sixes and seven fours and shared in a fourth wicket stand of 73 with Matthew Lamb before falling to a brilliant catch by debutant Xavie Clarke at deep backward square.

Lamb went onto make 65 from 41 deliveries with four sixes and three fours before he perished at deep backward square after a stand of 68 with Will Rhodes.

The latter completed his second half century of the day and was unbeaten on 52 from 24 balls out of Warwickshire’s 206-6.

Phagura ended with 2-35 and Parker-Cole 2-32.

Worcestershire lost wickets at regular intervals apart from a fifth wicket stand of 53 between Milton and Clarke who made 22 before he was stumped off Dominic Sibley.

Milton passed 40 for the second time in the day and had hit two sixes and four fours in his 26 ball knock before he holed out to long off as the visitors were bowled out for 147 in 17.2 overs.
