Saeed Sets Sights On Promotion After Making Comeback Appearance

Spinner Saeed Ajmal has set his sights on a successful second spell with Worcestershire and is targeting promotion after the rain relented and enabled him to make his comeback appearance against Derbyshire at New Road.

The Pakistan star had to wait until after tea on the opening day of the LV County Championship encounter to reappear for the county after rain washed out the first two sessions of the day.

Ajmal is available for a potential nine championship and 11 NatWest T20 Blast matches during a three month spell at New Road.

He said: "I am happy to be playing for Worcestershire again. Why have I come back? Pakistan do not play for three to four months and I asked to be allowed to play here again.

"I enjoyed it here last time. They are a bunch of good guys, my family is here, everyone is happy with me and I want to do well for Worcestershire.

"The paperwork has all been sorted out so I'm ready to play but you know the English weather. I can't do anything about that!

"It takes a while to acclimatise because I have come from Pakistan where the temperature is 40 degrees to 10-15 degrees and raining in England.

"Maybe I will take a few days to settle down but I am ready to play. I will be trying my best to bring good times to Worcester.

"I am used to travelling as an international cricketer so I will have no problem with that and I am okay to play."

Ajmal added: "What are my targets? I have come to give my best for Worcestershire, to take some wickets and to go for promotion.

"We won at Sussex last time in my final match and hopefully we can do the same sort of thing again.

"I played in the Twenty20 last time and did well and Worcestershire were happy with me. That is why they have called me again to play."
