Seconds Assured Of At Least Third Spot In Championship

Seconds Assured Of At Least Third Spot In Championship

Worcestershire Seconds are assured of at least equally last season’s achievement of finishing third in the Championship – and they have collected more points than in 2016.

The County still head the table by two points from Yorkshire with both sides having completed their Championship fixtures.

Lancashire are red hot favourites to take the North Group title as they still have two matches to play whilst Warwickshire could also climb the table.

But it has still been another season of progression for coach Kevin Sharp’s side particularly with several players having graduated into the senior set-up which is the ultimate objective.

Alex Hepburn, Pat Brown and George Scrimshaw have been members of the Rapids NatWest T20 Blast squad and gained valuable experience which will stand them in good stead in the years to come.

In addition Josh Tongue has become a regular member of the Specsavers County Championship side – in addition to featuring in the T20 Blast – whilst George Rhodes has also played both formats.

Worcestershire – as in 2016 – have won three Championship matches and currently only Leicestershire have acquired more bowling points.

Their final tally of 122 points is six more than in 2016 when they finished joint third with MCC Young Cricketers.

Worcestershire may have featured even more strongly for Championship honours but for the complete wash-out of the match with Durham at Burnopfield in late June.
