Seconds Denied Victory By Mcc Last Wicket Pair At Kidderminster

Worcestershire Seconds came close to forcing victory but were denied by the MCC Young Cricketers last wicket pair of Mohammed Abid and Adam Dobb in the Second Eleven Championship clash at Kidderminster.

The county set MCC a target of 314 in 68 overs after declaring at lunch on the final day and they closed on 292-9 with Abid and Dobb surviving the last 3.5 overs.

MCC had declared their first innings on their overnightt total on 309-6 – 149 runs in arrears.

Worcestershire lost Matt Pardoe (18), caught at mid on, and first innings double century-maker Joe Clarke (24) who was bowled.

But Ross Whiteley, with an unbeaten 57 off 51 balls including three sixes, and Brett D'Oliveira, who struck 42 off 33 balls before being caught at deep square leg, set up the declaration with a stand of 116 in 12 overs.

Worcestershire declared on 164-4 off 27.5 overs.

MCC were well placed at 126-1 after Matt Renshaw (48) and Liam Gough (62) added 99 but D'Oliveira removed both including the latter after he hit wicket.

Wickets then fell at regular intervals with Graeme Cessford and Graeme Whiles picking up two apiece while D'Oliveira finished with 3-60 but MCC held on for a draw.

The two sides will meet again on Friday in a Second Eleven Trophy clash at Bromsgrove CC (11am).
