Seconds Open Championship Campaign In Style With Nine Wicket Win

Seconds Open Championship Campaign In Style With Nine Wicket Win

Worcestershire Seconds completed a convincing nine wicket win over Leicestershire Seconds in their opening Second Eleven Championship match of the season at Oakham School.

Coach Kevin Sharp's side have been in control of the game for the majority of the three days and thoroughly deserved their success in the final session.

Leicestershire Seconds resumed on 44-2 in their second innings – still needing another 79 to make Worcestershire bat again.

They were eventually bowled out for 194 with triallist Matthew King and fellow paceman Charlie Morris doing most of the damage.

King, who played two List A games for Hampshire in 2013 and 2014 and was with the MCC Young Cricketers last summer, ended with 4-36.

Morris, who has taken 96 County Championship wickets in the last two seasons, had figures of 3-42.

Worcestershire were left a modest 72 target and lost first innings half half-century maker Ollie Westbury for 14.

But skipper George Rhodes (18 not out) and Alexei Kervezee (32 not out) added an unbroken 49 to see Worcestershire to victory.
