Senanayake Helps Side To T20 Final Before Headng To New Road

Spinner Sachithra Senanayake is heading to New Road on the back of helping his side Sinhalese Sport Club finish runners-up in the Sri Lankan T20 tournament.

The 30-year-old is due to fly into Heathrow today and then link up with his Worcestershire team-mates for tomorrow's opening LV = County Championship match with visiting champions Yorkshire.

Senanayake played a key role in Sinhalese reaching the final of the T20 and has completed a spell of eight games in 10 days.

But they were just edged out by Badureliya Sports Club who won by 10 runs despite some late hitting by Senanayake.

Sinhalese put their opponents into bat and they made 176-4 with Senanayake bowling four overs for 36 runs.

He then went to the wicket at number eight and hit 20 off 11 balls before being dismissed in the final over as Sinhalese closed on 166-9.

Senanayake had figures of 1-42, 0-26, 0-25, 1-21, 2-30, 1-14, 0-31 and 0-36 in the competition.

His last first class performance in Sri Lanka produced a 10 wicket haul in the win over Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC.

Senanayake had figures of 5-25 in the first innings and 5-28 in the second to give him an overall match analysis of 10-53 from 24.4 overs.
