Senanayake Set To Make Worcs Debut Against Champions – Flights Permitting

Sri Lankan spinner Sachithra Senanayake is poised to make his Worcestershire debut in Sunday's LV = County Championship match with Division One champions Yorkshire at New Road.

Senanayake, who has taken 376 first-class wickets in 71 matches at an average of 19.69, is due to land at Heathrow at 7.30am tomorrow after playing in the latter stages of the domestic Sri Lankan T20 tournament.

He has obtained the necessary visa and the Sri Lankan Cricket Board granted a No Objection Certificate with the provision that he first completed his T20 duties at home.

Senanayake replaces Saeed Ajmal during the first part of the 2015 season and the duration of his stay will depend on the international commitments of the Pakistan spinner.

Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes said: "Will he be playing on Sunday? Yes as long as his flight is on time we will be here and we will get him out there.

"It will be a little bit close to call, it will be the day before, but we will hopefully have him here making his debut for Worcestershire against Yorkshire.

"If all goes to plan he will arrive Saturday morning.

"He has been involved in the domestic Twenty20 competition in Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan board wanted to make sure he played in those games and you can understand that.

"The No Objection Certificate came with the proviso that he played in the semi-final and final of the T20 which we understand.

"Thankfully for us the agents and Sachithra himself managed to get the visa up and running and did a great job."
