Worcestershire Interim CEO Tom Scott has paid tribute to Tom Graveney OBE for whom a Service of Thanksgiving will be held tomorrow in Worcester Cathedral from 2.30pm.
Graveney was a member of Worcestershire's County Championship winning side of 1964 and 1965 following his move from Gloucestershire, regained his England Test spot in 1966 and became captain of the County from 1968 to 1970.
After his retirement from county cricket in 1970, he enjoyed a distinguished career in broadcasting with Test Match Special and was Worcestershire president from 1994 to 1998 before becoming president of the MCC for 2004-2005.
Tom Scott said: "We are all very excited about the service at the Cathedral. It is going to be a huge event and Tom Graveney was a great player.
"I saw him play when I was very, very young and he's been described as the greatest cricketer ever by quite a few people.
"With Basil D'Oliveira and Tom, we probably had two of the greatest cricketers that ever lived.
"We were fortunate that he played for Worcestershire. I think he will be well remembered on that day and many, many people will turn up.
"It is a great chance for members and supporters to pay tribute and there are going to be some big tributes paid on the day from various people."

It is a 15 minute walk across the Severn Bridge to the Cathedral. On crossing the bridge, follow the riverside pathway, past Browns restaurant until reaching a Welcome to Worcester sign. Here cross the car park to steps in the far corner of the car park, leading towards the Cathedral.
This is quicker than continuing along the riverside pathway to the Cathedral’s Water Gate (which leads to the Cathedral Close).
Seating – there is no formal application for tickets, so seating is not reserved apart from that for the family and those participating in the Service.
Reception after the service – Worcestershire CCC have kindly agreed to 'host' afternoon tea at the County Ground.
