Jack Shantry made another sizeable contribution with the bat to almost rescue another lost looking cause but Greenvale Kangaroos were just edged out in a Victorian Premier Cricket Bartercard Men's Premier Firsts clash with Ringwood.
The Worcestershire paceman will go down in the county's history for his century and 10 wickets to secure victory over Surrey from an unpromising position and clinch promotion back to Division One of the LV= County Championship.
Ringwood had been dismissed for 143 last weekend but this modest total suddenly looked imposing as the Kangaroos were reduced to 39-8 with Ben Cox, who has been in fine form in recent weeks, dismissed for 10.
But Shantry, who came in at number six, revived Greenvale's victory hopes as he shared a stand of 60 for the ninth wicket with K. Adams.
Shantry was eventually dismissed for 44 to take his run tally for Greenvale to 153 from five innings at an average of 51.
Adams and last man T. Waring (13) added another 41 for the final wicket before the former was dismissed for 140 as Greenvale fell three runs short on 140 all out in 51 overs.
Shantry did not bowl in the second innings as home side Ringwood closed on 69-1.
Joe Clarke was on the winning side for South Perth after a dramatic collapse on the second and final by home side Melville in a Western Australian Cricket Association first grade encounter.
Worcestershire wicket-keeper Clarke had scored a half century on the opening day last weekend in South Perth's total of 256-9.
He picked up three catches today behind the stumps as Melville, who had been 107-1 at one stage, were dismissed for 184 in 78.3 overs.
One of Clarke's catches accounted for Melville's top scorer and skipper T. Scollay for 54.
Geelong City skipper Richard Oliver spent all day in the field on the opening day of the Geelong Cricket Association Division One match at home to Newtown and Chilwell.
The Worcestershire opener took one catch but would have been disappointed to see Newtown recover from 118-6 to 191-7 off 85 overs by stumps. The match will be concluded on November 15.
Ross Whiteley's side, Prospect CC, came off second best on the opening day of the two-day South Australian Cricket Association first grade match away to Sturt.
Sturt were put into bat and made 345-5 declared from 90 overs, with Cameron Borgas scoring 103, and then reduced Prospect to 8-2 from four overs by the close.
