Sharp Looking For Repeat Of Trent Bridge Heroics Against Somerset

head coach kevin sharp is looking for a repeat of the last day heroics at trent bridge as worcestershire strive to salvage a draw from the specsavers county championship clash with somerset at New Road.

the county will resume on 50-2 on the final day tomorrow after being set a 443 target by the visitors.

travis head is unbeaten on 36 in his final championship appearance for the county.

worcestershire held out for the final 115 overs against nottinghamshire to earn a precious five points for a share of the spoils.

sharp said: “it is going to be a tough day tomorrow but we would certainly like to save the game.

“we did that in the last championship game where we managed to bat all of the final day, albeit with 10 wickets left.

“the pitch has not got demons in it and if we play to our potential i should imagine that we can save this game.”

sharp was full of praise for the performance of moeen ali who finished with 5-107 and eight wickets in the game.

he said: “moeen bowled brilliantly, great lines and lengths, good pace. i’m sure the england selectors have been watching very closely.

“it will be interesting to see what the selection is for the england team.

“it is always great to have him here but you wish moeen well. he wants to play at international level and, if he is picked, we will just give him our blessing.

“if we’ve got him here, we will just treat that as a bonus.”

moeen fell to the last ball of the day from jamie overton after the earlier dismissal of daryl mitchell.

sharp said: “mo was out to a great delivery this evening. it pitched about leg stump and hit middle and off.

“it was just top class bowling. you can’t argue with that.”
