Sharp Looking Forward To Close Working Relationship With New County Ceo

new head coach kevin sharp is looking forward to developing a close working relationship with new worcestershire ceo matthew rawnsley.

sharp says the pair have already held some fruitful conversations ahead of rawnsley officially taking up his role at New Road on march 1.

the former yorkshire batsman admits he is “buzzing” after stepping into his role in a restructured coaching set-up at the age of 58.

sharp said: “have i been been in touch with matt rawnsley? yes, i spoke to him for a good hour initially and that was a good conversation.

“we seem to have the same ideals and goals and i caught up with him again at malvern college and here (at New Road).

“we need to work closely together, which we will do, and it was an easy and comfortable conversation with him. he sounds a top man.

“they want me to manage the players. joe (leach) will take a lot of responsibility with the team.

“there will be a lot of onus on him and the players to take those responsibilities.

“the support staff, we just need to support and help each other, and bounce off each other’s strengths.”

former second eleven coach sharp is relishing his new role with the county he first linked up with four years ago.

he said: “as it given me a new lease of life? absolutely. i feel very motivated, i’m buzzing.

“i perhaps need to get this first couple of weeks over and then i might sleep a bit better then!

“there has been a lot to do, and i’ve also done some ecb coaching stuff, so i’ve had long days and i’ve been on the phone a lot.

“since the announcement, i’ve never had so many messages in my life so i’ve spent my spare time replying to those.

“i’ve replied to each one individually because that’s important.

“i’ve been sat up at 11 o’clock at night still doing stuff and when i’ve normally been going to sleep, i’m still wide awake.”
