Skipper: Alexei Reaping Benefits Of County’s Winter Trip To Chennai

Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell believes Alexei Kervezee is reaping the benefits of the county's winter trip to Chennai following his success as a batsman and spinner against Sussex at Hove.

Kervezee was one of the eight players who spent 10 days in India during February with the accent firmly on the turning ball.

The Dutch international scored 93 at Hove but was then handed the chance to bowl by Mitchell and responded with the wickets of century-maker Matt Machan, in-form Luke Wright and skipper and key batsman Ed Joyce.

They were his first wickets for the county with his only previous two first class wickets for Holland several years ago.

Mitchell, who was also part of the Chennai party, said: "Alexei Kervezee is someone who works so incredibly hard on his bowling in the nets.

"I think his batting and bowling both benefitted from the 10 days in India over the winter.

"He was somebody who I wanted to give a go to with ball at some point and I felt the time was right and he repaid me ten fold.

"I wasn’t expecting him to get the wickets of the calibre of the first-innings century maker (Machan), Ed Joyce and Luke Wright.

"They were three pretty good scalps to start with!"
