Skipper Richard Oliver praised the fighting qualities of Geelong City in overcoming Murgheboluc by 51 runs in a Geelong Cricket Association Division One match.
Worcestershire opener Oliver scored 116 of his side's 239-3 in 50 overs and then Murgheboluc were dismissed for 188 after being 110-1 at one stage.
Oliver said: "We rocked up to a good, used pitch at Murgheboluc, won the toss and batted first, and it was a slow start for us with their main opening bowler Benny Nichols bowling his 10 overs straight through for 14 runs.
"We hit the field a lot, so at halfway we were 0-70 but we flicked the switch after drinks and targeted their spinners especially.
"I was out for 116 in the 35th over and we went on to post 3-240, which was above par considering how big the boundaries were and how slow the outfield was.
"They bowled too full early doors and although it swung a bit, it seamed around when they dropped their length back.
"We went out with our plans to learn from the first dig and they absolutely belted us everywhere in being 1-110 at halfway!
"We didn't bowl and field very well first half, but we pulled it together after drinks and three brilliant run-outs in quick succession.
"There was some tight bowling from our co-coach Wortho in tandem with a new recruit from the country, a 16-year-old off spinner-batsman from Colac named Luke Ingles which swung momentum our way."
Oliver is again doubling up as a member of the groundstaff during his winter spell with Geelong and admits it helps to build up his strength.
He said: "I've been hauling the two ton push roller and all the machines around for almost a couple of weeks now and I'm starting to build my strength up which feels pretty good."
Oliver admitted that county colleagues Ben Cox and Jack Shantry were already proving a hit with Greenvale Kangaroos after helping the to a fine victory over Melbourne at the weekend.
Cox hit 57 off 44 balls and Shantry was unbeaten on 22 as the Kangaroos won with a ball to spare.
Oliver said: "Spoke to Coxy and Shants and they are fizzing and have been given the keys to Kangaland already after getting them over the line at the weekend!"
