Skipper Believes Form At New Road Will Be “massive” Factor

Skipper Daryl Mitchell says Worcestershire's home form will be a "massive" factor in their hopes of cementing a place in Division One of the LV = County Championship.

The county launch their Championship campaign on Sunday with the visit of current champions Yorkshire (11am start).

Worcestershire defeated Nottinghamshire, Hampshire and Lancashire at their headquarters when they stayed up in 2011 in addition to overcoming Sussex at Hove.

Mitchell is in action today and tomorrow in the county's final warm-up game against Northamptonshire at Northampton.

He said: "How vital is the home form going to be? It is going to be massive. This is a great place to play cricket down here.

"We know our wicket pretty well. Tim Packwood (head groundsman) can generally produce pitches that we like to produce as well.

"We also get a pretty decent four-day following as well so hopefully they will get behind us and we will try and win three or four games at home.

"That will set us well on our way.

"It's always exciting this time of the year and to host the champions is going to be a great four days.

"Hopefully we get a good crowd down here and start well."
