Steve Rhodes Reaction To Wantage Road Encounter

Steve Rhodes Reaction To Wantage Road Encounter

Worcestershire Rapids Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes gave his reaction to BBC Hereford-Worcester's Dave Bradley after yesterday evening's NatWest T20 Blast clash with Northamptonshire Steelbacks at Wantage Road.

The Rapids went down by seven wickets with Brett D'Oliveira scoring a half century and Mitchell Santner (4-0-24-1) and John Hastings (4-0-20-1) returning the best bowling figures.

Rhodes said: "What did I say at the end of the game? I didn't have a long conversation. I left it to the team really. I was interested in them summing it up.

"It is quite raw to be honest and we curtailed the meeting and just decided to take a little bit of a chill, time-out, have a sleep on it.

"We've got training on Saturday morning, we will come back in with a few ideas, a few thoughts on how to get better.

"The powerplays were a huge difference? Huge. We were three wickets down and they were none down for 72.

"Shants (Jack Shantry) went for a catch at fine leg, he took it but he was over the rope. I'm nor suggesting he made a real mistake on it because it was quite a tough call but just a yard shorter and it could have been a totally different story with Richard Levi gone.

"But he played very well, as did Adam Rossington, and they certainly came at us and smashed us in the powerplay.

"They seemed to bowl different lengths and widths, it almost looked a different pitch when Levi and Rossington came in? I thought so too. I thought the lad Richard Gleeson bowled really well in the powerplay at us.

"He swung the ball, nipped it around, and bowled good pace.

"Obviously we opened with a spinner (Santner) but then we didn't seem to have the same sort of attacking capabilities to take those wickets that Gleeson had.

"Tough baptism for Pat Brown? But that's the nature of T20 crcket, if you are a bowler, you are always under pressure. But he is quite realistic, he understands that, he is quite a brave lad, a gutsy lad, he will be fine."
