Testing Opening Day For Academy In Tri-Series Clash

Worcestershire Academy had to endure a testing opening day of their Tri-Series three-day match with Leicestershire Academy at Uppingham School.

The home side elected to bat and recovered from losing two early wickets to reach 405-8 declared.

Then Worcestershire lost four early wickets and will resume tomorrow morning on 23-4.

Opener A. Trusz and number seven J. Keast both scored centuries for Leicestershire who had been reduced to 14-2 after a double strike from Alex Coates.

Trusz began Leicestershire’s recovery, featuring in stands of 53 with W. Rogers and 82 with H. Merriman.

Leicestershire were 171-5 when Trusz and Keast joined forces and they added 170 in 34 overs.

Billy Cox eventually accounted for Trusz whose 148 came off 227 balls and contained one six and 19 fours.

Coates collected a third wicket to dismiss Keast whose 115 from 135 deliveries incuded 14 boundaries.

Worcestershire ran into early trouble but will be hoping for better fortunes when Mahaaz Ahmed and Kris Green return to the wicket.
