THREE WICKETS FOR HASKETH AS ACADEMY ARE EDGED OUT BY SHREWSBURY

THREE WICKETS FOR HASKETH AS ACADEMY ARE EDGED OUT BY SHREWSBURY

Worcestershire Academy player Xavie Clarke was in good form – but it was against his County colleagues who went down by 37 runs to hosts Shrewsbury School on day two of the three-day festival.

Clarke, who is part of the Academy’s 2018-2019 intake, represented his school in the 50 over fixture and top-scored with 61 from 74 balls with one six and five fours.

He shared in a third wicket stand of 118 with Will Sissons (57) after Academy new ball bowler Rohan Hasketh had removed both openers in his second over.

Hasketh finished with the impressive figures of 10-0-37-3 and Rehan Edavaleth – 10-1-40-2 – and Freddie Fallows – 10-0-49-1 – were the other wicket-takers as Shrewsbury totalled 241-7 in their 50 overs.

When Worcestershire batted, opener Ben Lees was full of aggressive intent in making 37 off just 25 balls with seven boundaries.

He was eventually dismissed at 42-2 to the first ball of the seventh over.

Edavaleth, who made a patient 45, and Joe Miszkowski (24) added 42 for the fourth wicket.

There was late resistance from Hasketh – 27 off 35 balls – and Reeve Evitts – 33 off 47 deliveries – in an eight wicket partnership of 57 as the Academy closed in 204-8.

They had defeated Millfield Meyers in their opening match on Tuesday.
