Former Worcestershire opening batsman and the club’s current Vice Chairman Tim Curtis has accepted an invitation to become a Vice-President of the Worcestershire Cricket Society.
Curtis was a key performer during the County’s second ‘Golden Era’ in the late 1980s and early 1990s when seven trophies were lifted in five years.
He was often the glue which held the Worcestershire innings together in County Championship cricket but also showed the other side of his game when sharing six century partnerships with Sir Ian Botham when winning the 1987 Sunday League title.
Curtis is a former President of the Cricket Society stretching back to the Society’s inaugural years two decades ago.
He joins current Worcestershire CEO and ex player, Matt Rawnsley, and the present club President and former captain, Norman Gifford, in becoming a Society VP.
Other VPs are former Worcestershire skipper Phil Neale, ex club Chairman and wicket-keeper, John Elliott, and former Society chairman and highly respected local cricket official, Bill Tansell.
Curtis said: “I am happy to accept this honour from the Cricket Society.”
Meanwhile, another opener in current player Daryl Mitchell has agreed to be the Society’s guest speaker at their winter cricket evening on January 8 in the Hick Pavilion.
