Worcestershire centurion Alexei Kervezee is backing the county's attack to strike back on a bowler friendly Grace Road pitch on the second day of the LV = County Championship match with Leicestershire tomorrow.
Kervezee scored a fine 102 – his second hundred of the season – out of Worcestershire's 237 all on a green tinged wicket after they have been put into bat.
Then Jack Shantry and Charlie Morris collected a wicket apiece as Leicestershire closed on 58-2 before bad light led to an early finish.
Kervezee said: "I'm very happy and very proud. I was just happy to contribute towards getting towards that 250 mark.
"Hopefully if the bowlers put the ball in the right spot tomorrow, we can get ahead of the game.
"The pitch is hard work and there are definitely balls in there for a bowler and, if you put it in the right areas long enough, you should get your rewards as you saw with my innings today.
"I went through periods where I played and missed and rode my luck a bit. That's the way it is sometimes.
"As you saw with their innings, they had a few playing and misses as well so hopefully we can put the ball in the right areas and get our rewards for it. Our attack has done well all season.
"This year we have taken our chances, haven't spilt too many catches touchwood, and hopefully it is the same tomorrow."
Kervezee was delighted to add another 100 and praised the contribution of Tom Kohler-Cadmore (32) in a fourth wicket stand of 77.
Kervezee said: "He actually played well for a young man on a tough wicket and I'm really pleased for him. There was also a beautiful cameo at the end as well from Saeed Ajmal which got us some important runs.
"As for myself, I am very happy. It's no secret I had a tough time last season so to get my second century of the season is good.
"I am in decent nick at the moment and hopefully I can keep it going and take it forward and keep going with it."
Kervezee reached three figures with a deliberate upper cut over the wicket-keeper and slips for four off Ben Raine. He also shrugged off the verbal outbursts aimed at him on more than one occasion by bOwler Charlie Shreck.
He said: "I don't mind that to be honest. It's all good fun and games. A bit of bravado here and there is fine."
