Ben Cox came within seven runs of a deserved century to lead a Worcestershire recovery before Josh Tongue caused mayhem with the ball on day one of the Specsavers County Championship clash with Glamorgan at New Road.
The wicket-keeper batsman, promoted to number five for the second match running, helped Worcestershire to fightback from 14-3 to reach 267 all out in 70.4 overs.
Ed Barnard (60) and Tongue (41) also made sizeable contributions as the home side secured two batting points.
Then Tongue ripped through the Glamorgan batting line-up during a devastating spell of 6-2-16-5 – backed up by some magnificent catching.
Glamorgan, who had been 39-0 at one stage, closed on 76-6.
Worcestershire were put into bat after an uncontested toss and the in form opener Daryl Mitchell, who had scored 534 runs in the previous five innings, lost his off stump to the third ball of the innings from Lukas Carey.
Tom Fell (7) was trapped lbw by Timm van der Gugten who then accounted for Brett D'Oliveira (7) with Aneurin Donald holding onto a sharp chance at third slip.
Cox and Joe Clarke then joined forces with the former in particularly aggressive mood during a stand of 69 in 16 overs.
The partnership was broken shortly before lunch when Clarke (25) was bowled by Hogan with a delivery which was angled in.
Worcestershire reached 97-4 by the interval with Cox unbeaten on 48 and the keeper went to his half century from the first ball after lunch via an edge for four off Carey – one of his few false strokes.
Van der Gugten bowled a lengthy spell during the afternoon session and accounted for Ross Whiteley (6) who was pouched by Donald who took another good catch at third slip.
Cox was joined by Barnard in another productive stand of 59 in 11.4 overs.
The former Bromsgrove School pupil looked set for a deserved century but then became the fourth victim of Van der Gugten as Andrew Salter reacted sharply away to his left in the gulley.
Skipper Joe Leach (13) was lbw to Hogan and Jack Shantry ((3) was caught down the legside off Carey.
Barnard reached an excellent half century off 86 balls with six fours and received determined support from Josh Tongue in a stand of 42 for the ninth wicket.
The ex England Under-19 batsman finally holed out to mid-off off Andrew Salter for 60.
Tongue collected two boundaries in an over from Hogan costing 15 runs to bring up the 250 before Salter brought about his dismissal at deep extra cover.
When Glamorgan launched their reply, openers Jacques Rudolph and Nick Selman advanced their total to 39 in 11 overs.
Rudolph was fortunate to inside edge Leach for four before he made the initial breakthrough in bowling Selman (4).
Tongue then took centre-stage with five wickets in the space of 20 balls.
Will Bragg (7) was bowled and then Colin Ingram (2) went for a pull and the ball looped up to Whiteley at first slip.
Donald (0) fell to a smart low catch by Mitchell at second slip and David Lloyd (2) perished to an even better one by Clarke at third slip.
Then Cox rounded off his fine day with a superb one handed catch – diving in front of first slip – to account for Van der Gugten.
