Tongue To Make Seconds Comeback In Batsman Only Role

Tongue To Make Seconds Comeback In Batsman Only Role

Josh Tongue will return to action for Worcestershire Seconds in tomorrow's Second Eleven Trophy meeting with the Unicorns at Challow and Childrey CC in Oxfordshire (11am).

Tongue will play purely as a batsman in his first game for the Seconds since suffering a back problem in early May.

The paceman has made a quicker than expected recovery from the setback and has already appeared in club cricket as a batsman for Brockhampton.

Tongue made his first class debut in Worcestershire's opening fixture of the campaign against Oxford MCCU in The Parks and showed plenty of promise.

Tom Fell will skipper the Seconds tomorrow with George Rhodes again part of the first team squad.

The Seconds opening Second Eleven Trophy game of the season away to Durham was abandoned without a ball being bowled in April.

The same fate was suffered today (Tuesday) in the two T20 matches with Unicorns at Kidderminster.

Heavy rain left the umpires with no choice but to call off both matches at lunch-time.

Joe Clarke had been due to keep wicket in the opening game but he will now rejoin the first team squad for the Royal London One-Day Cup match with Leicestershire Foxes at New Road tomorrow.
