Turner Shines With Bat And Ball As Himley Win Canterbury County Cup

A fine all-round performance from man of the match Jamie Turner helped Himley to win the Canterbury County Cup final by 34 runs against Old Elizabethans at New Road today.

Turner smashed an unbeaten 32 off just 14 balls with two sixes and three fours to propel Himley to what proved to be a match winning total of 144-5 in 20 overs after they had elected to bat.

Bilal Hussain (26 off 29 balls) and skipper Greg Wright (38 off 28 deliveries) were the other main contributors.

For OE’s, Eliot Bartlett returned the excellent figures of 4-1-12-1.

Turner then got to work with the ball and finished with 3-11 from 3.3 overs as OE’s were bowled out for 110 in 19.3 overs – a total boosted by 35 extras.

Stuart Wedge (4-0-19-3) also made a big impact with the ball.

*In the Canterbury County Plate final, Bromyard defeated Bretforton by three wickets, also at New Road today.

Bretforton were put in and totalled 155-7 thanks mainly to Paul Jones’ 64 off 35 balls.

But Bromyward chased down the total with three balls to spare and were indebted to man of the match Rob Willis’ 61

off 35 balls with nine fours.

He went in at 46-3 and added 82 in 10.2 overs with George Leighton (31).
