Worcestershire spinner Ben Twohig was amongst the wickets as the England Development Programme Under-17s side warmed up for the three one-dayers against Pakistan Under-17s with a victory against an United Arab Emirates X1 in Dubai.
Slow left armer Twohig, who is part of the county's 2014-2015 Academy intake, picked up two wickets and finished with figures of 2-40.
It was an encouraging start for the Malvern College pupil who has already played Second Eleven cricket for Worcestershire last summer.
Surrey's Sam Curran – the son of former Gloucestershire and Northamptonshire all-rounder Kevin Curran, returned 5-27 as the UAE were dismissed for 168 in 45.2 of their 50 overs.
Max Holden, the tour captain and one of four Middlesex players in the squad, then hit an unbeaten half century, and his opening partner George Bartlett, from Somerset, also retired on 36 to give other batsmen some time at the crease.
Curran and Tom Moores, the wicketkeeping son of the England coach Peter who joined Nottinghamshire from Leicestershire during the autumn, completed a nine-wicket win with 13 overs to spare.
Head coach Iain Brunnschweiler said: “The preparation phase in Dubai has gone really well. It has taken the squad a few days to acclimatise to the heat, but the group have gone about training impressively.
“We have spent time considering how we can be effective in the conditions and this warm-up match provided our first opportunity to test our skills against local opposition in sub-continental conditions.
“The match has been a really good run out for the squad, all the players have contributed in some way, they will hopefully be in a confident mood moving into the series against Pakistan U17s."
The first of the three one-dayers is on Tuesday and there will also be a three-day match against Pakistan to conclude the tour.
