Six of Worcestershire CCC's current Academy players helped the Midlands Under-17s to win the final of the England Development Programme 'Super Fours' competition with a 62 run success over the North Under-17s at the National Peformance Centre, Loughborough.
Skipper Ben Twohig, Josh Dell, Nick Hammond, Zen Malik, Josh Haynes and Josh Tongue were all part of the Midlands side which went unbeaten through the competition.
Twohig was voted man of the match in the final and received his award from England Development Programme chairman David Graveney.
The selection and success of the sextet is another indication of the flourishing Academy system at New Road and only recently Twohig and Tongue signed their first professional contracts with the County.
The Midlands followed up their seven wicket win over the North in the qualifying stages with another convincing success.
They totalled 254-9 in their 50 overs with Hammond and Haynes making good contributions with the bat.
Hammond (20) helped top scorer Tom Keast (72) add 62 in just nine overs for the fourth wicket.
Then Haynes gave the innings late impetus, coming in at 169-6 and striking 39 off just 25 balls with two sixes and three fours.
Twohig also weighed in with a useful 14 from nine deliveries.
Tongue then took the new ball and struck an early blow when he had Ben Ainsley caught behind in the fifth over with 22 on the board.
He returned to the attack to claim a second wicket and finished with 2-44 from his 10 overs.
Twohig completed a successful tournament by having the North's top scorer Sam Oldham stumped for 83 to end the match and he bowled eight overs for 33 runs.
In total the Malvern College pupil claimed eight wickets in his four appearances in the tournament. Haynes came on second change and bowled eight overs for 35 runs.
