Twohig Picks Up Four Wickets For Seconds At Taunton Vale

Spinner Ben Twohig took the bowling honours for Worcestershire Seconds on day two of the three-day friendly with Somerset Seconds at Taunton Vale.

Twohig had already picked up one wicket overnight as Somerset closed the opening day on 31-1 in reply to Worcestershire’s 294-5 declared.

The former Malvern College pupil added a further three scalps to finish with figures of 30-7-82-4 as Somerset were bowled out for 317.

Opener Ben Green anchored the home side’s innings in making 92 off 234 balls with nine boundaries.

Worcestershire then closed their second innings on 36-1 for the loss of skipper Ollie Westbury – an overall lead of 13 heading into the final day.

Twohig bowled 16 overs in a row during the morning session and was rewarded with the first breakthrough of the day as George Bartlett was caught and bowled off a skier.

Green and Somerset skipper Peter Trego added 69 for the third wicket before the latter was caught at point off the bowling of Worcestershire first innings century-maker Zen Malik.

Seven of the Somerset batsman were dismissed between 22 and 39 with Westbury holding catches at mid wicket and mid on to account for Tom Banton and Roelof van der Merwe respectively.

Fin Trenouth edged Twohig to first slip, Max Waller was caught behind off Charlie Morris who also had Nathan Gilchrist pouched at deep cover.

Worcestershire employed nine bowlers during the afternoon session before taking three wickets for five runs immediately after tea.

It was Dillon Pennington who ended Green’s solid knock when he bowled him eight runs short of his hundred.

When Worcestershire batted again, Westbury went leg before to Ollie Sale to leave Adam Wiffen unbeaten on 20.
