Under-17S In Late Double Strike After Conceding First Innings Lead

Worcestershire Under-17s conceded a first innings lead of 126 but struck two early blows with the ball in Devon Under-17s second innings on day two of the ECB County Championship match at Sandford.

The visitors resumed on 51-2 and were bowled out for 246 with six players today scoring between 21 and 48 but no-one going onto make a major contribution.

But then Riecko Parker-Cole and Matt Davis picked up a wicket apiece during tight opening spells as Devon closed on 29-2 from 15 overs – an overall advantage of 155.

Worcestershire’s not out batsmen, Dan Holland and Zain Ul-Hassan fell victim to Sam Read for 41 and 21 respectively to leave their side on 78-4.

Alex Hinkley and Pete Clark then held the Devon attack at bay during a fifth wicket partnership of 90.

Hinkkley made 48 off 103 balls with five boundaries when he was dismissed by Sam Woodcock and at the same total Clark – 42 from 94 deliveries also with five fours – became another victim of Read.

A rain break followed shortly afterwards and when the players returned Worcestershire slipped to 198-8 before Aaron Tomson (31) and Ed Bragg (21) added 41 for the ninth wicket.

Read finished with the impressive figures of 25-8-37-4.
