Unveiling Of Bronze D’oliveira Busts Is Postponed

The unveiling of the bronze anniversary busts of Basil and Damian D'Oliveira in the Graeme Hick Pavilion this weekend has been postponed.

Naomi, wife of Basil, and Tracey, wife of Damian, had been due to perform the ceremony on Sunday during day one of the Specsavers County Championship clash with Sussex.

But the unveiling will now take place at a later date.

The busts mark the culmination of lots of hard work and fund raising by the D’Oliveira Foundation.

They are based on the many photographs provided by the D’Oliveira family.

Sculptor John McKenna has been working on creating the busts for the last few months in his workshop in Scotland with the close involvement of the family.

The anniversary busts have been commissioned by the Foundation to provide a lasting memorial tribute to Basil and Damian D’Oliveira.

John McKenna spent his early years in Worcester and went to school at one stage with Damian.

He has created several iconic sculptures including that of legendary football manager, the late Jock Stein which stands outside Celtic Park.
