Will Wade led an excellent Worcestershire Academy recovery as they defeated Millfield School First X1 by 33 runs in their opening match at the Shrewsbury School pre-season tournament.
Wade hit an unbeaten 69 after the Academy had been reduced to 48-6 in the 17th over and led them to 199-9 from 50 overs.
Then Zen Malik and Mahaaz Ahmed both picked up three wickets as Millfield were bowled out for 166 in 46.2 overs.
Wade was given excellent support by Dillon Pennington (29 off 46 balls) and Matt Davis (28 off 55 balls) in stands of 52 and 72 for the seventh and eighth wickets respectively.
He faced 95 balls and hit four boundaries in his undefeated and invaluable knock.
The Millfield innings followed a similar pattern to the Academy and Malik and Zain Ul Hassan were largely responsible in reducing them to 50-6.
Resistance then came in the form of a seventh wicket stand of 87 between Tremouth (72) and Kett (51 not out).
Ahmed made the vital breakthrough to dismiss Tremouth and then picked up two further wickets.
He finished with 3-34 and Malik 3-22 with Hassan returning 2-19.
