Weather Frustration For Seconds In Durham Friendly

Weather Frustration For Seconds In Durham Friendly

Worcestershire Seconds suffered weather frustration on the their opening day of the 2016 campaign today.

Coach Kevin Sharp's side had been due to take on their Durham counterparts in a 40 over friendly at Richmondshire CC.

But heavy rain left the umpires with no choice but to call the match off at 8.45 this morning.

Now the two sides will hope for better fortunes tomorrow with the elements.

They are due to meet at the same venue in a Second Eleven Trophy 50 over fixture beginning at 11am.

Worcestershire enjoyed a successful campaign in the competition last summer, finishing third in their group and just missing out on a semi-final spot.

George Rhodes had been due to captain the side today as he looks to build on a successful winter in Australia playing grade cricket for North Canberra Gungahlin.

Alex Hepburn will be hoping for similar success to last summer when he scored four hundreds for the Seconds and tasted senior cricket in two Royal London One-Day Cup matches.

Spinner Ben Twohig has joined up with the squad after missing the internal match involving Academy and young professionals at Kidderminster.

He was part of a three-day training camp with the England Development Programme at Loughborough – the third camp of the winter.
